SankerIP celebrates six months in business today!

Six months ago I left my comfortable job as a partner in BigLaw to launch my patent firm SankerIP. Many people have asked why. Why leave a beautiful office where I had good work, good associates, and good pay?

A tough question like this rarely has a simple answer, so I will explain just two facets. First, I believe the market for legal services is in transition, and the transition has accelerated due to readily available generative AI such as ChatGPT. It is becoming more difficult for BigLaw to demand premium pricing when there are cost-effective high-quality alternatives. I prefer to be part of the transition rather than clinging to the past.

Taking on a new challenge is also an important part of my personal growth. I did not have the courage to do something like this earlier in my life. Recently I saw a video of Jeff Bezos describing his own thought process before starting Amazon. He had a good job, so why take a risk on something new? He reasoned that if he did not start his new company, he would regret missing the opportunity for the rest of his life. On the other hand, if he launched his new business, he would feel good about it, even if the business failed. I will never be a billionaire like Jeff Bezos, but I feel the same way about launching my patent boutique SankerIP.

We are just getting started. I really want to thank my team: Vlad Skliba, Atcha Totachawattana, Julie Maes, and Andrew Keirns.
