SankerIP joins Daimler Truck in Portland, Oregon for Outside Counsel Meeting

Daimler Truck North America LLC, is a leading provider of comprehensive products, services, and technologies for the commercial transportation industry.

On September 9, over 100 outside counsel for Daimler Truck convened in Portland for a series of insightful presentations about operations, including the challenges they face as a company. On September 10, the people reconvened at the Portland International Raceway to drive big rigs around the track.

If you have seen the Transformer movies, you may recognize Optimus Prime, which is a truck having a key acting role in the movies. Optimus Prime joined us at the raceway.

The following photo shows me together with Paul Focke, who manages the Daimler Truck North America patent portfolio in Portland. Next to Paul is Ankita Chandan, who recently joined Daimler as a paralegal. Also at the event was my colleague Ehsun Forghany. Ehsun and I worked together for many years at our former firm. Ehsun is now applying his amazing skill as an IP litigator at Arent Fox, and he has been working with Daimler to develop their IP enforcement strategy. In the background in this photo is another truck that performed in the Transformer movies.

The following photo shows me in the cab of a new fifth generation Freightliner Cascadia, driving the truck around the raceway with a 60,000 pound payload in a 55 foot long semi trailer. (Add “Gig Truckdriver” to my resume!) These trucks are full of technology innovation, making them very safe and easy to drive. I also drove a full-size dump truck and a 30 foot EV truck.

I am very happy for SankerIP to continue its partnership with Daimler Truck North America, securing IP rights for their innovation.
