SankerIP has a lot of expertise in AI, and I am very happy to be here representing the firm. I distributed many copies of AI books with my chapters on AI in the United States and Guidelines for the use of Generative AI. The publications are also available in digital format on the Publications page of the SankerIP website.
I spoke on a panel regarding “AI’s Transformative Influence,” moderated by Rory Redding. With my background focused on AI technology, it was enlightening to hear from Eleanora Carrillo about the huge effects of AI in the fashion industry. I was also very interested by the thoughts of Justin Pierce on the role of “Fair Use” when training AI models. Under current Fair Use doctrine (at least in the United States), it is likely that training AI models will be permitted. But the Fair Use doctrine could be updated to address the fact that AI model trainers are extracting substantial value from the creative work of others.
A big Thank You to the WIPF organizers for this event and bringing together so many people and organizations. And special thanks to Pravin Anand for his thoughtful plenary session about the role of AI everywhere. I have met more people from around the world than ever before. Perhaps I need to get out more often!
